Sat a table 8 minutes to close, but I get the last laugh.

You know this goes... I'm at a hotel, we close the restaurant at 10, set up breakfast the next day. Cocktail menus replaced w coffee mugs and sugar caddies etc.
  • 04
There's a family finishing up, everything else is set for breakfast, thought I'd be out, but no. 9:52, I explained that we were obviously about to close, but of course, heaven forbid we stop serving food before 10pm and get a bad review.

So, I let them know "it's last call, and food and drink orders must be in before 10. Because we close" But I'm nice to the guys, they both ordered my favorite dish and even got the homemade bread for extra

after 10, we were closed, and like rational humans, went to explore the downtown core with plenty of options open until 2am. I know the 2 men heard the interaction, because we are the only people

there. Cue this guy waving his wine glass at me. I know, this is the way of asking for another glass of wine. Because I'm not friendly with them, so I ask why he's waving his glass at me? "Clearly, I'd like another Pinot

Grigio..." And I'd like to go home, but that ain't going to happen now is it (is what I'd like to have said) "Sir, you sat and ordered your meal and wine when we we're at 5 minutes before closing, I asked for you full order, because we closed

put in your full order. There are several other options you could have chosen, but you chose the one that is now closed" I could have sent wine upstairs w him. But no. I legally can serve until 2, but no. Never come in 5 minutes till close.

4alark 1 day ago I had a table last night. It was last call for al hol, thirty minutes before we closed. My coworker goes around and checks in with all the tables. Talks to the table. They say they'll "think about it."

She tries to convey that there is no more time, it's now or never. They still say they're not sure. Ten minutes after last call, they wave me over, say they've decided to get a bottle of wine. Hah! No. I try to explain that last call happened,

that was the last time we could legally serve them, I could get in trouble for bringing them the bottle. They're welcome to take it to go. I'll even open it for them, but they can't drink it here. After arguing back and forth a little, they accept their fate. They are

one of the only tables in the place. People are so funny. Why would I want to give you stuff after it's over? Don't people realize we want to leave at the end of the day? Why on earth would I bring you more wine? Honestly!

naughty-613 OP. 1 day ago We'd get all the closing servers, cocktail waitresses and the last bartenders to death stare the last table, and wait to feel the da_gers of 6 people hitting them. Or we'd put on Xmas music. At some point they're wondering WT, is

"All I want for Christmas" on repeat? Then notice the lights up, chairs up, everybody changed ready to leave... Like, why did Mariah Carrey drive you out, but the lights on, TVs off, didn't tip you off?

naughty-613 OP. 21 hr. ago This is the answer, I usually apologize too. No way I'm ordering food anytime near close. I like my food degreaser free.

Morgil2 1 day ago People in this thread talking about how OP should be fired? For what exactly? Not serving alchol to a rule guest? Man, finding staff is hard enough. You fire every server who won't serve someone who Waves their glass at them like that you won't have any servers at all.

Nevermind Responsible service of alcohol says if the guest shows any signs of belligerent behavior (like say, waving a glass at them) then the Responsible action is to not serve them.

naughty-613 OP. 21 hr. ago Ya, I don't post often, just wanted to share a funny story of being petty (and right) on a slow Friday. The call for my job is pretty funny and a ridiculous take. I'm 25 years in, I'm an amazing hospitality
